Modern cigarettes are made from finely cut tobacco leaves mostly coming from the countries of North and South America.

In the same way there are people who like dogs and those who are passionate about cats, smokers choose either cigars or cigarettes to satisfy their need for nicotine in the blood. The difference between cigars and cigarettes seems clear – they look different: cigars are longer and thicker, they usually do not have a filter, and it can take you from one to a couple of hours to smoke a cigar.

This is how the difference between them is explained for the purposes of taxation:

a cigarette is a roll of tobacco wrapped in paper or any other substance that does not contain tobacco, while a cigar is the same roll of tobacco wrapped in any substance containing tobacco or tobacco leaf. Another difference is that while tobacco for the production of cigarettes takes about a weak to cure, in case of cigars the process is different. Tobacco leaves are supposed to be aged for about one year and it can take from 3 to 5 months for the process of fermentation used for them. Even so, in many cases cigars may be cheaper than cigarettes because of the taxation differences.
